The Inexorable Power of Stillness
It occurs to me, while we long for a sense of peace that seems inevitably to elude us with each goal we set or action we take (as if we’re trying to eliminate a ripple in a pool by using our bare hands and thus perpetually and with futility adding to the water’s initial turbulence), that dwelling in stillness, if only for a few stolen minutes each day, is the only effective remedy. Instead of habitual and focused attempts to grasp what we believe to be essential, through stillness we can be alchemists of sorts and transmute chaos into peace simply by eliminating all that is inessential.
