Aging Coogan and Brydon do their Michael Caine Impressions
This is probably my favorite small scene from The Trip. The film has so many melancholy moments, so many mixtures of laughter and sadness….but this Is just funny as hell. So what the fuck else could I possible post at this moment. Here’s to laughter…..cheer to Coogan and Brydon for this quiet masterpiece of a film (which is, oddly enough, an amalgam of separate BBC television episodes). Anyway, it’s great. If I have to tie it in with Shadows, I suppose it’s a film about two aging entertainers, probably past their career primes, slowly acknowledging that the sheer passage of time erodes everything. Everything that makes me laugh seems to be facing directly at Shadows and darkness. I love the mystery of laughter.
