Joaquin Phoenix Becomes His Shadow-Self

So what the fuck is going on here? My understanding is that it was performance art for a faux-documentary filmed by his brother-in-law. The Letterman interview occurred when it wasn’t so clear. It was intriguing at the time and even now because movie stars are so preoccupied with Image and Phoenix here becomes his Shadow-Self. Dude is a great actor and I thought the whole showed that he had the balls to “destroy” his Image and embody Shadow, if only to examine the audience’’s response. Shadow is not welcome on network television.
